AI as a Public Good: Reports, Reflections and Revisions

AI has become ubiquitous in our in daily lives, often times without our knowledge and consent. It begs the question, what does the future of AI look like in a society with less and less choice? As algorithms, content feeds, and mere exposure effects are slowly degrading our agency, freedom of expression, freedom to discover and question, and even (unbeknownst to some) our critical thinking and our IP into whatever capacity these AI companies see fit.

In our current trajectory in the west, the salvation we were promised through AI has forced me to be more critical day-by-day. Where my data is going and how it will be used against me. In explicit and implicit ways, your data can be multiplied to versions of you in digital platforms without our knowledge or power to control our reputation, our human likeness, and even our creative expressions. Cybersecurity and verification technologies will be booming to address this, as more cases of defamation, online abuse, and perhaps even physical abuse will be on the rise, especially against women.

But lets get back to the topic at hand, how can AI be a Public good, working for society rather than making us data points to feed into The Machine. How can we decouple it, reimagine it and rebuild our technological infrastructure in a safe way, that balances powers in more equal nodes, into a network that is more democratic and fair, rather than monolithic and exploitative.

In this article I’ve gathered three reports that came out just this year, 2025, to address this chasm of influence in power and agency, and instead offers an alternative to AI that empowers humanity to collaborate, share resources, and help each other thrive in an ever more chaotic world.

ANALYSIS TO COME SOON, in Cross analysis of the three reports…..
